In the manufacturing process, due to the influence of processing or measurement, the actual size of the finished product always has a certain error.

In order to ensure the interchangeability of parts, the actual size of the parts must be controlled within the allowable range. The allowable dimensional variation is called dimensional tolerance.

Cases:

1, the basic size design, given size: 30mm

2, the limit size allows two dimensional variations of the limit value:

Maximum limit size =30+0.01=30.01mm

Minimum limit size =30-0.01=29.99mm

3, the algebraic value of the limit deviation, the minimum size, and the basic dimension. That is, the algebraic difference between the maximum limit size and the minimum limit size and the basic dimension are the upper and lower deviations, collectively the limit deviations. The upper and lower deviations of the hole are expressed in capitals ES and EI, respectively:

Upper deviation ES=30.01-30=+0.01

Lower deviation EI=29.99-30=-0.01

4, dimensional tolerances allow the amount of variation in size, i.e., the maximum limit size, the minimum limit size, and the algebraic difference between the upper and lower deviations.

Dimensional tolerance is an absolute value without symbols.

Tolerance: 30.01-29.99=0.02

Or I0.01- (-0.01) =0.02
